Practice Owner Veterinarians
Jennifer Maas , DVM Dr. Jennifer Maas, veterinarian and practice owner, graduated form Cornell Veterinary School in 1980. In 1982 she started South River Veterinary Service, a mobile practice which specialized in horses, cows, sheep and goats. Increasingly, over the years, she paid home veterinary visits to dogs and cats as well. In 1999 Dr. Maas started an exclusively small animal practice in Marshfield. She particularly enjoys getting to know each of her individual patients well. Over the years Dr. Maas has volunteered in Mexico, Nicaragua and the U.S. to work for animals in need. She has a particular interest in annual welfare and behavior. Her family includes 2 horses, 5 dogs and 2 cats. She enjoys hiking, drawing and writing and loves to garden.
Kyle Quigley , DVM Dr. Kyle Quigley, associate veterinarian, graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2009. Dr. Quigley joined South River Veterinary Service in October 2009. While attending Ross University, Dr. Quigley was named to the Dean's List and earned several awards. Hill's granted him a scholarship and Compassionate Animal Care Award for his exemplary care, compassion and dedication to the stray animal population on St. Kitts. His surgery team won the Small Animal Surgery Award and Dr. Quigley also received the Animal Care Award, a Semester Achievement Award, and the Veterinary Colleague Award. Dr. Quigley is a veteran of the United States Army. He served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. He and his wife Sue, who works in the office here at SRVS, have a daughter and three dogs.
Technicians
Shawna Smith , CVT | Shawna Smith, head veterinary technician, has been working for SRVS since 2001. In 2005 Shawna graduated from Mount Ida College with a Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Technology. She is currently certified as a Veterinary Technologist in the state of Massachusetts. In addition to her busy professional schedule, Shawna works to fulfill her continuing education requirements and cares for her 4 horses, 3 dogs, 2 birds, 1 cat, 1 rabbit and 1 guinea pig. She enjoys training her dogs Winston and Pixie and her horses, Ellie, Stewie and Norman. Shawna is also a talented nature photographer. |  View |
Abby Young
Abby Young, veterinary technician, has been working for South River Veterinary Service since 2003. She graduated from Mount Ida College with a Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Technology in 2007. Abby has 1 dog, 2 cats, chickens and birds. She is also an active organic gardener.
Reception Staff
Irene Lay Irene Lay, receptionist, has worked for South River Veterinary Service since 2002. A 1970 graduate of The School of Fashion Design in Boston, she turned her love of animals into a career in animal care. Since 1997, Irene has volunteered at Kingston Animal Shelter. Her lovely murals of dogs and cats decorate the shelter's walls. Irene is, as well, a certified Animal Control Officer, and worked as an ACO for the town of Plymouth prior to working here. In the mornings, Irene currently manages cat adoptions at Standish Humane Society. Over the years, Irene has pursued her interest in animal behavior by attending numerous seminars. In her spare time, Irene paints and draws.
Sue Quigley Sue Quigley works for the hospital in the areas of practice development and business management as well as providing support for the front office staff. She received a B.A. in English and Communications from Boston College in 1999 and a J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law in 2005. She joined South River Veterinary Service in August 2009. In addition to spending time with her husband (Dr. Quigley), their daughter Beelyn, and their three dogs, Sue enjoys writing, photography and swimming.
Nancy Foster
Nancy Foster, receptionist, began working at South River Veterinary Service in August of 2011. She is a 1988 graduate of Saint Anselm College with a B.A. in Political Science. She resides in Hanover with her husband, Jim and children, Holly and Hank. Aside from spending time with her family, Nancy enjoys antique shopping, reading and working in the garden.
Carol Dee
Carol Dee joined South River in August 2011 and works part time to support the reception/office staff. She is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts with a B.S. in Mathematics. Before joining us, she worked as a Business/Office manager for small and large companies. Carol has served on her town’s school committee and enjoys various volunteer work as well as traveling, reading and cooking.
